Deputy Ministers Nguyen Minh Hang

PERSONAL INFORMATION

Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang was born in 1976 in Hanoi. Joining the diplomatic service in 2000, she has held various positions related to the process of international integration, multilateral diplomacy, and economic diplomacy for national development.

She is married and has two sons.

EDUCATION
  • Bachelor's degree in International Relations from the Institute for International Relations (now the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam).

  • Master's degree in International Relations from University College London (UCL), United Kingdom.

  • Fluent in English.

DIPLOMATIC CAREER

Ms. Nguyen Minh Hang began her diplomatic career in 2000 upon recruitment and assignment to the Department of Multilateral Economic Cooperation. During more than 23 years working at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she has held various positions.

From 2000 – 2005: She was an officer at the Department of Multilateral Economic Cooperation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and was appointed Acting Deputy Director-General, then Deputy Director-General of the Department of Multilateral Economic Cooperation from 2008 to December 2013.

From December 2013 to December 2016: She served as Minister Counselor, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Vietnam in the Republic of Singapore. After returning to Vietnam, she was appointed Deputy Director-General, APEC 2017 National Secretariat (from January 2017 – February 2018). She previously served as Head of the Group on Political and Non-Economic Issues, APEC 2006 National Secretariat (from 2006 – 2007).

From February 2018 to May 2021: She was appointed Acting Director-General, then Director-General of the Department of Multilateral Economic Cooperation, concurrently serving as Vietnam's Senior Official (SOM Leader) for the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM).

From May 2021 to October 2023: She was appointed Director-General of the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, then Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs concurrently Director-General of the Department of Economic Affairs; also serving as Deputy Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Steering Committee on Economic Diplomacy.

On October 12, 2023, she was appointed Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs by the Prime Minister and has concurrently served as Chairwoman of the Committee for Foreign Non-Governmental Organization Affairs since November 7, 2023.

She is currently a Member of the Central Executive Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union.

AWARDS AND RECOGNITION

During her career in the diplomatic service, Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang has been awarded several titles and certificates of merit, including:

  • Third-Class Labor Order (in 2018) for outstanding achievements in the preparation and servicing of APEC Year 2017 events;

  • Certificates of Merit from the Prime Minister for outstanding achievements in organizing APEC Year 2006, in advocating for the EU's signing and ratification of the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the Vietnam-EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), and in vaccine diplomacy, in 2007, 2020, and 2021 respectively;

  • Certificates of Merit from the Minister of Foreign Affairs in 2009, 2012, 2014; Certificate of Merit from the Minister of Home Affairs in 2011; Certificates of Merit from the Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs in 2013 and 2017; Certificate of Merit from the Executive Committee of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour in 2013; and Certificates of Merit from the Chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) in 2018 and 2021;

  • Recognized as a Grassroots-level Emulation Fighter for many years;

  • Medal 'For the Cause of Diplomacy'.
