On 10 April 2025, at the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Viet Nam, in response to a question regarding Viet Nam’s comments and upcoming measures following President Donald Trump’s decision on 9 April to implement a 90-day pause on reciprocal tariffs for over 75 countries, including Viet Nam, Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang stated:
“We view the U.S.’ decision to pause reciprocal tariffs for 90 days on exports from other countries, including Viet Nam, as a positive step. Guided by the spirit of the Viet Nam - U.S. Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and grounded in mutual respect, the two countries will negotiate a reciprocal trade agreement, aiming to reach satisfactory solutions towards fair and sustainable trade that benefits the people and business communities of both countries.”
